Just a month before the dinner, I have arranged for a food tasting session on 16th October 2009, at Evergreen Chinese Restaurant. From the food menu provided I have chosen the following:
1st Course
Hot Items
Top Shell Meat with Szechuan Sauce
Deep Fried Vietnam Prawn Rolls
Fried Scramble Egg with Crab Meat
Cold Items
Chilled Jelly Chicken with Spicy Sauce
2nd Course
Shark’s Fin Soup with Crab Meat and Dried Scallops
3rd Course
Stir Fried Chicken with Chestnuts & Lotus Seeds
4th Course
Braised Sea Cucumber “Hong Siew” Style
5th Course
Sautéed King Prawns with Vegetables and Cashew Nuts in Yam Ring (without shell)
6th Course
Steamed Garoupa with Ginger and Onion
7th Course
Fried Glutinous Rice with Condiments
8th Course
Sweetened Hot Red Bean Soup with Lotus Seeds
Generally the food was satisfactory, however, 2 of my special invited guests found the onion (ingredients of the main dishes) tasted weird. Mmmm... they are really professional food critic! Ryan and I have no comments at all, anyway, we have conveyed the message to the person in charge and the kind chef even came out to meet us and ensure this will not happen on the actual day.
Oh ya, i brought a bottle of red wine to the dinner as well, thinking to feel for having red wine together with the chosen dishes. Surprisingly, the wine tasted just nice, not dry and smooth! It was a 2006 Australian Wine, "GR's"....
